TSA EXTENDS FACE MASK REQUIREMENT THROUGH JANUARY 2022 | FLIGHTLAYAWAY
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is extending the face mask requirement for individuals across all transportation networks throughout the United States, including at airports, onboard commercial aircraft, on over-the-road buses, and on a commuter bus and rail systems through January 18, 2022.
Earlier this year, TSA
announced an initial face mask requirement that was set to expire on May 11,
2021. Due to the ongoing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, on April 30 the
agency announced an extension to the requirement through September 13 of the
same year. Now, the mandate will remain valid and in effect through the first
three weeks of January 2022.
TSA suggests that all airline
travelers check with the airline regarding any additional in-flight restrictions
prior to taking a trip. All commuters and travelers are recommended to check
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for additional
guidance.
Any current exemptions to the
face mask requirement for travelers under the age of 2 years old and those with
certain disabilities, as well as civil penalty fines, will also remain in
place.
Travelers seeking further
guidance or answers to any questions regarding airport security screening
procedures are invited to contact TSA through Facebook or Twitter at the
@AskTSA username for live assistance from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern on weekdays,
or 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern on weekends and holidays.
